Be honest – how often do you look at your bank statements?
If you’re like a lot of people…probably not too often. Maybe it makes you feel scared or helpless.
That breaks my heart, because the whole reason money exists is so you can take care of yourself.
Money isn’t supposed to make you feel stressed – it’s supposed to make you feel safe.
And a lot of people try to hide from negative feelings by just ignoring the reality of their situation.
But one of the best money management tips I can give you is NOT to play peek-a-boo with your checking and saving accounts.
There’s really only one way to take control of your finances – and that’s to spend time on them.
Spending regular time managing your money is crucial to financial success.
It gives you a clear picture of your financial situation, helps you set and achieve goals, budget effectively, manage debt, build security, and make the most of your financial opportunities.
By actively managing your money, you take control of your financial well-being and increase your chances of achieving financial success.
…but it can be hard to get past those overwhelmingly negative emotions.
That’s why creating a weekly money ritual that you LOVE is important.
If you’ve never heard the phrase, a weekly money ritual is something we created exclusively at Dow Janes! It’s an hour that you set aside every week to focus on your finances in a way that actually feels enjoyable.
And if you don’t think that managing your money could ever be something you enjoy, keep watching, because I’m going to show you exactly what I do to make reviewing bills and financial goals my favorite self-care routine.
What I do to make my weekly money ritual fun:
- Invite my friend Bruna over
- Light a candle
- Pour a glass of sparkling water
- Get a snack
- Play music
What I do during my weekly money ritual:
Every week, I keep a running list on my phone of things to do during my weekly money ritual. This can include:
- Review credit card statements
- Create a travel budget
- Re-align investment portfolio based on my values
- Cancel subscriptions
How I reward myself after:
For me, just doing the ritual is a reward in and of itself because I feel so proud and accomplished every time I do it. But sometimes I’ll watch a show or go in the hot tub afterward.
